CBS cancels two scripted series, setting May finale dates as part of its 2026–27 lineup decisions and schedule rollout.
CBS has canceled the sophomore drama Watson and freshman comedy DMV as part of its finalized 2026–27 lineup of returning scripted series, according to The network made the decision after months of uncertainty, leaving both shows as the only scripted series without renewal following early pickups this year.
It confirmed the cancellations ahead of its schedule unveiling on April 15. The two series ranked among CBS’ lowest-rated programs and faced declining prospects as new dramas Marshals and CIA secured early renewals. Watson experienced a ratings drop after moving from Sundays to Mondays before returning to its original slot, while DMV maintained steady linear ratings but saw declines in delayed multi-platform viewing. The network renewed 12 dramas for the upcoming season, including freshman series Marshals, CIA, Sheriff Country, and Boston Blue. It also added previously ordered shows Cupertino and Einstein to the lineup.CBS has scheduled the series finales of Watson and DMV for May 3 and May 11, respectively. Watson, starring Morris Chestnut, premiered in January 2025 and is concluding its second season, while DMV, led by Harriet Dyer, debuted in October 2025 and will end after its first season. The finales will mark the conclusion of both series runs within weeks of the cancellation announcement on March 27. CBS made the decision while expressing confidence in upcoming comedy pilots Eternally Yours and Tillbrooks as potential replacements. Executives have reportedly given Eternally Yours “an enthusiastic early response,” while Tillbrooks completed taping and recently reached the studio. With both DMV and The Neighborhood ending, CBS will open slots for new comedy entries in its 2026–27 lineup.Vritti Johar is an Entertainment and Pop Culture writer at Evolve Media, where she covers a wide range of engaging content, blending her passion for cinema with expert storytelling.
