Barbie director Greta Gerwig will write and direct two upcoming The Chronicles of Narnia movies for Netflix.
Gerwig has had a successful directorial career behind her, having helmed the critically successful Lady Bird and Little Women. Her newest movie, Barbie, stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in an adaptation of the popular Mattel dolls., Gerwig has a deal with Netflix to write and direct at least two movies based on C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia.
Further installments of the series have been languishing for years, with a The Silver Chair adaptation, directed by Joe Johnston, not coming to fruition yet.The movie releases on July 21, 2023, by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Kate McKinnon, Ariana Greenblatt, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Will Ferrell, Helen Mirren, Dua Lipa, and more.Jonathan Sim is a film critic and filmmaker born and raised in New York City.
