Two suspects are in custody after an infant's remains were found buried on a south suburban property on Friday morning, officials said.

Two suspects are in custody after an infant's remains were found buried on a south suburban property on Friday morning, officials said. The Will County Sheriff's Office says detectives were first told about the remains in Wilmington on Thursday.

Detectives learned that a 36-year-old woman had given birth, and the infant's remains were buried and marked with a makeshift headstone on a property in the 1900-block of Roberts Road. After securing a search warrant, deputies took several suspects into custody on Friday around 9 a.m. Investigators found the infant's remains, wrapped in a plastic bag and cloth, inside what appeared to be an Old-Style Beer box about 36 inches underground.A man and a woman, both 36, made incriminating statements regarding "the concealment of the death of the infant," the sheriff's office said. Both suspects will remain in custody pending autopsy results and possible charges.Copyright © 2025 WLS-TV. All Rights Reserved.
