Suspect arrested in shooting at apartment complex, Arlington police say

The victim, identified in Tarrant County medical examiner records as Adel Elhindawi, was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died Thursday.Updated with more details. Two people were arrested in a fatal shooting at an apartment complex along the border of Fort Worth and Arlington.

Arlington police arrested Brian Espy, 31, and Quyanna Massie, 24, who are suspected in the Monday shooting. Espy was arrested Wednesday and Massie was taken into custody Thursday, according to jail records.Officers responded to a shooting call Monday at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Alexis Avenue. The victim, identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office as 52-year-old Adel Elhindawi, was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died Thursday.Elhindawi was the owner of a car dealership, police wrote in an arrest-warrant affidavit, and on Monday he and an employee drove to the apartment complex to retrieve a Jeep that had been loaned to Espy. Espy had not returned the Jeep in the agreed-upon timeframe, the employee told police. The employee got into the Jeep using a spare key, and Elhindawi, who was driving another vehicle, attempted to follow the employee out of the complex, police said. The employee told investigators he then saw Espy running towards them and firing a gun. The employee drove the Jeep out of the complex and parked around the corner to wait for Elhindawi. But Elhindawi was struck by the gunfire, police said.Espy later pulled up near the employee in a car driven by Massie and demanded at gunpoint that the employee get out of the Jeep, police said in the affidavit. The employee complied and Espy drove away in the Jeep while Massie followed, according to the affidavit. Investigators interviewed witnesses to determine that Espy was a suspect in the shooting, police said. He was found in Grand Prairie by members of the a U.S. Marshals fugitive task force. Espy was initially booked into the Arlington jail on one count of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated robbery. His charge was upgraded to capital murder after Elhindawi’s death., Engagement/Breaking News reporter . Nataly is the lead writer on Curious Texas and a breaking news reporter.
