Investigators are trying to determine the circumstances that led up to both of Wednesday’s shootings in the Central District.

Witnesses said someone fired at the victim from a light-colored SUV going south on 23rd Avenue, and then it turned right onto East Jefferson Street to get away. Then, just hours later, around 8 p.m., several neighbors less than a half mile away near 24th and Main heard gunfire. When police arrived, they found a woman dead on the sidewalk. Homicide detectives are still working to learn what led up to her murder.
