Two people were found dead in the landing gear compartment of a JetBlue flight from New York City after it landed in Florida.

The bodies were discovered Monday night during a routine maintenance assessment of the plane, the airline said. According to flight tracker data, JetBlue Flight 1801 departed John F. Kennedy Airport in New York at 7:49 p.m. Monday and landed at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport at 11:10 p.m.
Emergency responders pronounced the two individuals dead at the scene, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. The circumstances of how they accessed the compartment and how long they had been inside are uncertain. Landing gear compartments, which are located under the aircraft’s wings and at the front of the plane, have historically been used by people attempting to travel unnoticed on airplanes.
