The Washington Post’s senior political reporter Aaron Blake contends the defeated Democratic Party is without an obvious leader coming out of the 2024 race and has yet to define a clear message to voters.
Former US President Barack Obama embraces Democratic Gubernatorial candidate for Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro, as US President Joe Biden embraces Democratic US Senate candidate John Fetterman, during a 2022 rally in Philadelphia/FILEIt’s never too early to start speculating about who may be running for the White House in 2028.
Blake says more than a few Democrats are speculating about whether Shapiro, had he been chosen as Kamaka Harris' running mate, could have put Harris over the line to victory. He also mentioned Shapiro’s tendency to evoke the speaking style of former President Obama and how that sweet sound of nostalgia from the Democrats’ heyday might play in his favor in three years.
Blake says as Fetterman’s independent streak has been made visible, especially with some of his eyebrow-raising actions and urging the party to “chill” about about Trump’s return, he is getting noticed as a candidate who could speak to Trump voters.
