Alabama was notably absent from the magazine's list of the South's best new BBQ places.

Since the Alabama Rib Shack opened in May 2021, visitors from all around the country have made the pilgrimage to the tiny town of Gainesville to sample pitmaster Jamie Lee Mitchell's glorious barbecue.

Five from Texas and five from South Carolina. Three from North Carolina and three from Tennessee. Two each from Georgia, Virginia, and, yes, even Florida.But it’s not like we haven’t had any new barbecue joints open in Alabama over the past couple of years, either.
