2 immigration officers claim trial to bribery
TWO Immigration Department officers were charged in the Special Corruption Court in Tawau today with accepting bribes to allow nine illegal immigrants who had used identity cards of others for the purpose of leaving Sabah for the peninsula two months ago.
Rosmaini was charged with accepting RM4,500 as bribes from an individual as an inducement to allow the illegal immigrants to pass through immigration counter 1 at the Tawau airport between 8.30am and 9am, and board a flight from Tawau to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on March 23. The charges were filed under section 16 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which can be punished under section 24 of the same act.
The accused was charged under section 28 of the MACC Act 2009 and read together with section 16 of the same act and punishable under section 24 of the same act.
