Two firefighters and a resident were injured Wednesday in a house fire in Syracuse that also claimed the lives of several pets.
About 3:50 p.m., a passerby noticed flames and smoke coming from a home at 1194 S. 2100 West and called 911. When crews arrived, smoke was already visible from the house and flames were coming from the roof, said Syracuse Fire Deputy Chief Jo Hamblin.
The residents had already evacuated. One person in the home suffered minor burns in the fire, Hamblin said. The family's three dogs, two cats and three chinchillas are assumed to have died in the fire, he added. Two firefighters were injured by the heat, Hamblin said, one of whom was treated on scene and the other was taken to a hospital. The hospitalized firefighter is expected to make a full recovery. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday evening.
