Two separate crashes in Jacksonville late Saturday night and early Sunday morning left two motorcyclists dead, authorities said.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a man in his late 30s was riding a sport-bike-style motorcycle. Officers said for reasons unknown he left the road and hit a utility pole and a rock wall. He was taken to the hospital where he died.JSO said a man was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle east on Beach Blvd. approaching the Southside Boulevard intersection.
A GMC pickup truck failed to yield while making a left turn from the gas station onto Beach Blvd. and hit the motorcyclist who died at the scene, JSO said.The driver remained on the scene and was cooperating with the police.JSO is encouraging any witnesses who did not speak to police at the scenes of the crashes to contact the JSO Traffic Homicide Unit.
The incidents mark the 144th and 145th traffic fatalities in Duval County this year, and a total of 33 involved a motorcycle.
