2 CPD officers relieved of powers following fleeing/eluding charges filed
Two Chicago police officers were arrested Sunday and stripped of their powers following an incident where they allegedly fled from fellow officers.
Chicago police did not release details about the circumstances, citing an ongoing internal investigation, but a police spokesman on Monday confirmed that Officers Jonathan Mehrhoff, 32, and Luis Cruz, 34, were stripped of their police powers.Mehrhoff, a four-year veteran, was charged with two misdemeanors, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and reckless driving, along with traffic citations for disobeying a steady signal stop.
Neither officer could be reached for comment. Chicago Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7, which represents most of the department’s ranking officers, declined to comment Monday.
