An early-morning crash in Montgomery left five people dead, including two children. The crash happened at 12:30 a.m. Friday on Interstate 65 northbound at W.South Boulevard.

An early-morning crash in Montgomery left five people dead including two children.

The crash happened at 12:30 a.m. Friday on Interstate 65 northbound at W.South Boulevard, said Montgomery police Sgt. Tina McGriff. Police identified the fatality victims as Maria Baltazar, 49, Veronica Gonzalez, 28, Hosea Lopez, 27, Christian Lopez Gonzalez, 10, and 4-year-old Edwardo Lopez Gonzalez. All of the victims were from Cairo, Georgia.

McGriff said Baltazar was driving a 2021 Toyota Corolla when she entered the highway against the flow of traffic and collided with an 18-wheeler.“We would like to remind drivers to remain vigilant and pay close attention to traffic signage, especially when travelling through unfamiliar areas,’’ McGriff said.If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
