Authorities released the names of four people killed Sunday in a plane crash near the Southwest Alaska community of St. Mary’s.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The crash also left 23-year-old Mario Gioiello of Ohio and 25-year-old Caleb Swortzel of South Carolina dead.

According to the NTSB, the plane was flying in “special visual flight requirements,” or VFR, which requires special clearance to land and typically means that weather conditions are less than ideal. Once a pilot lands in Special VFR, they cancel the clearance with air traffic control. The wreckage of the Cessna was found about 1/2 mile away from the runway in St. Mary’s after it was reported overdue around 11:15 p.m. Sunday.
