Tuesday marks the start of the warmup, as a ridge of high pressure builds over California. While low pressure is associated with cooling, high pressure is associated with warming. Afternoon highs Tuesday will be in the 60s along the coast and upper 70s to lower 80s inland, the weather service said. Temperatures in the North Bay are likely to rise into the high 80s, and a few spots, such as Calistoga and St. Helena, could hit 90 degrees. Along the coast, San Francisco is predicted to hit a high of 72 on Wednesday and 73 on Thursday.
