Almost two and a half tonnes of waste was cleared on Saturday from just a 650 metre stretch of the River Freshney in the heart of Grimsby.
Their campaign for Morrisons to be more proactive on the issue even led to James Elliott, known as the Canoe River Cleaner, to be interviewed by Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio Two. BBC Radio Humberside revealed last week that Morrisons had committed to locking their trolleys at Morrisons Laceby “after listening to customer feedback”.
The nearest available bin at Corporation Bridge was “absolutely rammed full”. “I can’t stress how easy it was to organise and how much people want to be part of the community. It’s so good to see.”
