Minions, which made over $1 billion at the global box office, finds newfound success on Netflix as it hits the top 10 eight years post-release.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT After becoming a billion movie eight years ago, Despicable Me spin-off Minions works its way into the Netflix top 10. The 2015 prequel told the origin story of Gru’s popular yellow, boisterous league of sidekicks. Replete with the minions' classic gibberish-speak, Minions was a massive box office success and spawned the 2022 sequel Minions: The Rise of Gru.
Eight years after its theatrical release, Minions sees a streaming renaissance as it makes it into the Netflix Global Top 10. Spanning the week of October 23 to October 29, the Despicable Me prequel raked in 3 million views, coming in at no. 8 on the Netflix global charts. Topping the Netflix Global 10 this week were Old Dads and Pain Hustlers, with 16.3 million and 14.1 million views, respectively.
Minions Is The Biggest Success Of The Despicable Me Franchise Despicable Me’s bizarre villain-turned-father story charmed the world when it was released in 2010, making an impressive $543 million at the global box office. Five years later, Minions was even more impressive as the franchise picked up steam after the 2013 release of Despicable Me 2. Minions made a whopping $1.1 billion at the global box office, becoming the most successful entry in the entire Despicable Me franchise.
The recent uptick in Netflix views only further shows the extent to which Minions reigns supreme. This success is good news for Despicable Me 4, which is slated for release on July 3, 2024. The plot of this Despicable Me installment is still unknown, but without a doubt, it will be the yellow minions that drive the movie to success.
