Toby Stephens as John Robinson in Lost in Space.

A beloved Netflix sci-fi series came after a 1998 movie, and it is that classic project that has now become a major hit on a free streaming service. The best sci-fi TV shows of all time include projects like Lost, The Expanse, The X-Files, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and more.

The genre has always been brimming with potential, and it has only gotten better. Now, the many streaming services, with their bigger budgets and more advanced CGI, have led to a boom in the genre. Several exciting sci-fi-TV shows have emerged on streaming in the last few years, with series like Severance, Silo, 3 Body Problem, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Dune: Prophecy, and more dominating the conversation. One of Netflix's sci-fi series followed a classic genre movie. 1998's Lost in Space movie is currently the 9th most-watched movie on Tubi in the United States. The sci-fi film ranks above Willem Dafoe's Togo, which closes the list at #10. The chart is led by the Tubi Original thriller movie Twins, with the rest of the top five including Heartbreakers, Driving Miss Daisy, The Substitute, and Radio. The Lost in Space movie is not the first version of the sci-fi franchise, as it came after the classic CBS series Lost in Space from the late 1960s. The show ran for three seasons, debuting on September 15, 1965, and ending its run on March 6, 1968. The Lost in Space TV show was nominated for two Emmy Awards. After an animated movie based on the show was released in 1972, the live-action Lost in Space movie was released in theaters on April 3, 1998. The sci-fi movie had a reported budget of $80 million, which means it needed to finish its box office run in the $160 million to $200 million range to break even. It did not, with Lost in Space's theatrical run amassing $136.2 million worldwide, which means it lost millions. Still, the film has become a cult classic over the years. Lost in Space's cast included names like William Hurt , Mimi Rogers , Heather Graham , Jared Harris , Matt LeBlanc , Gary Oldman , and more. In 2018, Netflix released a new Lost in Space TV show. The sci-fi series ran for three seasons, just like the original 1965 show, though the Netflix sci-fi series had smaller, 8 to 10-episode seasons. With the 1998 movie now resurging on Tubi, fans of the Netflix version of Lost in Space can check out a past iteration of the beloved sci-fi franchise. 7.5/10 Lost in Space 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed PG-13 Science Fiction Adventure Release Date April 3, 1998 Runtime 130 minutes Director Stephen Hopkins Writers Akiva Goldsman, Irwin Allen Producers Carla Fry, Mark W.
