Even a moderate hill can drop this low-powered wagon far enough down the torque curve that a shift into third becomes inevitable, but the ratio is low enough that one ends up screaming along in third or shifting back into fourth without having gained enough momentum to stay there. Datsun has gone to considerable effort to insulate the engine of the coupe from the cabin—in part by means of the isolated front subframe to which the entire powertrain is attached.
