HURRICANE — A 17-year-old boy was killed in a 150-foot fall off a cliff in southern Utah on Saturday.

The 17-year-old was climbing with a friend near a cliff's edge on the Hurricane Overlook near 600 East on state Route 59 before 5:30 p.m. While climbing, he slipped and fell approximately 150 feet to the ground below, Hurricane police spokesman Dan Raddatz said in a press release. About 15 minutes later, Hurricane police officers along with Hurricane Valley fire personnel arrived at the base of the cliff only to find that the boy had not survived the fall, Raddatz said.

The deceased boy resided in La Verkin and attended Hurricane High School. His name has not been released yet."We wish to offer our prayers and sincerest condolences to his family and friends after this tragic accident," Raddatz said.
