Lancaster City police provided an update Saturday on a reported shooting that happened late Friday night. A 16-year-old boy was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg in the 600 block of Almanac Avenue around 10pm Friday, police say.
Witnesses told officers the shooting was the result of an argument, where two separate parties shot at each other. Neighbors told CBS 21 that the neighborhood of Almanac Avenue is pretty calm. But another neighbor said shootings like this happen at least once a month.say her name in fear of retaliation describes what happened that night when she heard loud bangs outside her home. "I was in my bedroom, gun shots woke me up, they woke my son up, my puppy got scared – started crying. My son said there was more than nine shots fired and he’s only twelve so, for him to sit there and count the gun shots is crazy. He heard all shots," said Anonymous. Carolyn Easley who lives a few neighborhoods down the street said she was shocked to hear about the shooting. But unfortunately incidents like this do happen, even with the calm atmosphere. "I heard there was a shooting and from what my daughter told me it was a sixteen-year-old, but she didn’t know who he was, she just knew he was a teenager. But you hear a lot of that going on, a lot of it unfortunately," said Easley. The shooting that took place on Friday startled many people because of the peaceful environment they were accustomed too. But for some, that is not enough for them to stay. "I am looking to move; this is just too much – the violence. And I just want to live in more peacefulness," said Anonymous. The shooting damaged a few homes in the area. One neighbor’s car was smashed from the bullet and a bullet hole was put through their basketball hoop. On Saturday police were seen patrolling the area to ensure everyone remains safe after what took place.Police are continuing to investigate.
