16-year-old Jaylen Prince was identified as the shooting suspect and charged as an adult with murder, first and second-degree assault, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/crime of violence. said 16-year-old Jaylen Prince was identified as the shooting suspect and charged him as an adult with murder, first and second-degree assault, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/crime of violence.
Deputies tracked him down minutes after they said he shot and killed 15-year-old Warren Curtis Grant during a fight in the first floor bathroom at the school.Immediately after his arrest, part of the investigation was halted, because of Maryland's Child Interrogation Protection Act, according to Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler.
“This case is a tragic example, where you have thousands of people affected, between the school and the parents and people that’ll be going to school in future years of wanting to know the answers behind this. And again, we’re prohibited from even talking to a 16-year-old," said Gahler. The sheriff's office said the investigation remains active at this time.
"As the investigation continues to unfold, if it shows that additional individuals were criminally responsible for this act, we will pursue charges accordingly."
