A 16-year-old was caught by police "out for a spin with his pals" in a car with no wipers and defective lights.

Officers stopped a vehicle in Warrenpoint on Sunday morning only to find that a teenager who is too young to drive was behind the wheel with his friends as passengers. The car was also found to have "questionable characteristics" including no wipers and defective lights. Officers said that the condition of the vehicle paired with the weather and the driver's lack of experience could have led to a "devastating" incident. The vehicle was seized by officers and a report file is going to be prepared for the driver.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Officers from B Section in Ardmore stopped and spoke to the 16 year old driver of this vehicle this morning in Warrenpoint... Yes 16 and out for a spin with his pals! "The car has no wipers, defective lights and various other questionable characteristics, which coupled with the weather conditions this morning and the driver's inexperience, could have been devastating. For all the latest news, visit the Belfast Live homepage here.
