The nights are getting colder and longer and households are beginning to consider putting the heating on. But resulting high energy costs over the autumn and winter months may be a worry for some.
The scheme will see certain pensioners and low-income households receive a cash boost of £150 off their energy bills this winter to help them cope with payments, BirminghamLive reports. The discounts are set to be applied between October and March, meaning some energy customers could benefit from savings within days.
In order to be eligible, customers must either receive the Guarantee Credit portion of Pension Credit or be on other benefits such as the Savings Credit portion of Pension Credit, Universal Credit or Housing Benefit if you have high energy costs. Full details are available here. Age UK says on its website: "The Warm Home Discount is a one-off payment to reduce certain customers' energy bills over the winter months. If your electricity supplier is part of the Warm Home Discount scheme, then you'll get the payment automatically if you or your partner receive the Guarantee Credit portion of Pension Credit.
