BEAUFORT: Some 150 civil servants and students, as well as members of different urban development committees Jawatankuasa Kemajuan Dalam Bandar and neighbourhood watch Rukun Tetangga groups, worked together to give Taman Tasik in Beaufort a facelift, recently.

The event was organised by the State Ministry of Local Government Housing, in collaboration with the Beaufort District Council, as part of its Sustainable Friend initiative.Council Executive Officer Mohd Ainol bin Mohd Dun explained that the initiative aimed to foster a greater awareness among local communities to go green and lower their carbon foot print.

“The Council is keen to repopulate the common areas, like the park, with more of these trees as the oranges are the signature fruit of Beaufort.” He said a community clean-up was also conducted at Taman Tasik, with a “plogging” endeavour carried out around the park. “A fresh coat of paint was also applied to the fixtures, including benches, within the public recreation area.” The participants of this year’s event were drawn from the Council, SM Gadong, the Beaufort Township neighbourhood watch, the Taman Sri Panglima neighbourhood watch and urban development committees for Taman Wawasan, Taman Bersatu, Weston, Membakut, St John and Beaufort South.
