While deployed, Guard members were tasked with patrolling parts of the city and protecting federal buildings.“I think Ohio certainly did its share in regard to the request from the Secretary of War to send people to Washington, D.C.,” DeWine said. “They were out there for a number of months. They made some sacrifices by being there. We are very proud of them, but it was time for them to come home.”According to the Congressional Budget Office, the federal government spent nearly $500 million in 2025 on National Guard deployments to several U.S. cities.
