Cutting-edge LiDAR, AI technology and over a decade of data collection in China reveals around 100 trees per inhabitant.
Researchers have used cutting-edge laser sensors to count the number of trees in China and mapped their distribution across the country. A new estimate from this study suggests that there are about 142.6 billion trees in China . This means the country has around 100 trees per inhabitant, an impressive number considering China ’s dense population. Moreover, the study stated that this figure may be underestimated due to the limitations of the technology used to count the trees.
He added that, while the number of trees could be somewhere in between, more research is needed to uncover more accurate figures.
