Ruth Elizabeth Brenneman, 14, has been identified as the girl whose remains were discovered in October 1973 in a wooded area of Union Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania State Police announced on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024. State police in Lebanon County used genetic genealogy to identify decomposed remains found hidden under a tarp in the woods in 1973 as a 14-year-old girl.Her body was found 47 miles from where she lived, police said.
Police noted, however, that her disappearance was listed in the national missing person database. Her remains were believed to be in the woods for several months before their discovery. Ruth, who was known to family members as “Ruthie,” has family members who are cooperating with the investigation, police said. They provided information and evidence that helped confirm her identity. Police would not say whether Ruth had siblings or whether her parents are still alive or what school district she attended.
