A 51-year-old man, who was shot multiple times in a Point Loma bar in 2011, has died from his injuries. Police are seeking the public's help in identifying the shooter.
A 51-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained in a Point Loma bar shooting nearly 14 years ago, prompting investigators to seek public assistance in identifying the responsible gunman. San Diego police homicide detectives revealed that Steven Nelson was shot multiple times inside Riley's Bar on Nimitz Boulevard near Rosecrans Street on the night of January 23, 2011. Authorities believe a possible altercation with an unidentified man triggered the shooting.
Paramedics transported Nelson to a hospital, where he underwent several surgeries. He remained under medical care since the incident and died at a long-term care facility on December 16. On Wednesday, San Diego Crime Stoppers announced a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the identification of the shooter. The suspect was described at the time as a tall, thin Black man in his mid-30s, sporting a short, black Afro and a thin mustache. He was last seen wearing a light brown sweater and black jeans. Anyone with information is urged to contact the homicide unit at 619-531-2293 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 888-580-8477.
