Mattel Films has announced a multitude of developments to turn their famous toys into major motion pictures starting with the release of Barbie.
In addition to the upcoming blockbuster Barbie, global toy company Mattel has at least another 14 announced upcoming movies based on their famous toys. With reportedly over 40 films in some type of development stages at the relatively new Mattel Films, the famous toy brand is set to mark itself as one of the biggest new entertainment franchises seemingly for years to come.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT 14 Masters of the Universe An upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe movie is set to be distributed by Netflix. The original 1987 animated film was inspired by Mattel's popular line of He-Man toys, comics, and animated series that ran 130 episodes from 1983-1985.
11 Polly Pocket A movie based on the popular line of miniature dolls Polly Pocket is currently in development with Lena Dunham attached to write and direct. Lily Collins of Emily in Paris fame is set to produce and star in the project as the titular character. The untitled Polly Pocket project will be distributed by MGM.
7 Magic 8 Ball A Magic 8 Ball horror movie is in the works, although it remains unknown what production house and studio will be behind it. Mattel has tried to make a Magic 8 Ball movie for decades and will finally have the opportunity to in the near future. At one point, Blumhouse was rumored to be attached to the project but they have since distanced themselves from that claim.
