We hope these donations are just the beginning of their efforts to fight racial injustice.
Although any day is a good day to contribute to organizations that support and protect the Black community and fight against inequity and violence against people of color, highly visible recent tragedies like the killing of George Floyd and the worldwide protests that followed have shined a recharged spotlight on the urgency of doing and giving what you can.
Many brands have announced that they have made or will be making an indeterminate donation to chosen organizations, and some have said they will donate a percentage of profits from a specific span of time. While these gestures are appreciated, not publicly committing to a specific amount of money misses an important mark: setting an example to other business that are capable of contributing, and not leaving it up to the consumer to determine how much may be donated because it hinges on sales.
The following beauty brands have publicly committed to specific donation amounts to specific organizations and philanthropies. We hope their conspicuous and transparent generosity sets an example for other highly visible and influential businesses, and even more, we hope these donations are just the beginning of their efforts to fight racial injustice.
writes on Instagram, announcing a $10,000 donation to Color of Change. "This is just a start; we are dedicated to doing the ongoing work required to actively impact change in our community."
