BREAKING: Firefighters have contained a large blaze that erupted in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley neighborhood on Tuesday morning.
More than 100 firefighters have contained a large blaze that erupted in a highly trafficked area of San Francisco’s Hayes Valley neighborhood on Tuesday morning.
Nobody was injured, but eight people were displaced and will receive care from The City and the Red Cross, fire department officials said. The fire, which ignited at a construction site on the corner of Octavia and Gough streets, affected five buildings, though officials didn't say to what extent. Officials also haven't said what caused the blaze. Fire crews will remain at the site"for a few hours."
The fire sparked just before 6 a.m. Multiple social media videos showed the building — a former parking structure being converted into a multi-story building — engulfed by high-rising flames, with large plumes of smoke consuming the sky above it.Emergency department personnel asked the public to avoid the area and to expect travel delays.
