From the Battle of Culloden to Jamie and Claire's reunion, here are the best 'Outlander' episodes to rewatch before Season 6 premieres.

Outlander is a bold, genre-bending tale that has drawn in audiences with its talented ensemble cast lead by Catriona Balfe and Sam Heughan as Claire and Jamie respectively, slow-burning, well-constructed plots, and for being a historically accurate period piece that doesn’t cater to presentism, yet still manages to stay relevant.

“To Ransom a Man’s Soul” “To Ransom a Man’s Soul” gives us a daring jailbreak and true love. But these lighter, more fun elements are juxtaposed by dark subject matter. Jamie sacrifices himself to the sadist Black Jack Randall in order to save Claire from him. This episode is hard to watch, but if you don’t look away, you will see some amazing performances and a zeitgeist moment of opening up about trauma and its aftermath.

“Dragonfly in Amber” This is an epic end to an epic season and Sam Heughan delivers a palpable performance. In heartbreaking moments, we see Jamie kill a kinsman and then send pregnant Claire through the stones back to Frank to keep her and their unborn child safe. In the 1968 narrative, Claire and Jamie’s daughter, Brianna , finds out her true paternity. She then meets Roger Wakefield — the direct descendant of Dougal and Geillis’s child—and we meet Geillis as her future self, Gillian.

“Blood of My Blood” Jamie is reunited with his son, William, and Lord John. John comes down with the measles during the visit, and audiences see Claire’s true character as she chooses the Hippocratic oath over her own complex feelings on Jamie’s past life and John’s feelings for Jamie. She sends Jamie and William away while she nurses John back to health. Relationships are established, characters are developed, and the acting is superb.
