The boy suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to hospital after the 'appalling incident' in Newcastle.
Thirteen children have been arrested by police in Newcastle after a boy, 11, was attacked on a train.The attack happened on the Tyne and Wear metro between Felling and Central Station in Newcastle at 8.20pm on Tuesday.
Members of the public helped the boy following the incident and he was attended by paramedics at the scene. He has since been discharged from hospital. Detective Inspector Laura Stabler, from Northumbria Police, said:"This was an appalling incident that has understandably caused a lot of public concern and anger."The 13 children arrested were all aged between 11 and 16 and have now been bailed with conditions restricting them from using the Metro.
Inquiries into the incident are still ongoing and the police have asked for any witnesses to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
