Many commuters were left stranded
120 hours of delays on the Midland Main Line were caused after a large amount of railway cable was stolen near Wellingborough. The British Transport Police are now appealing for local scrap metal dealers to keep an eye out for large amounts of quality copper.
The "incident of significant cable theft" took place on the Midlands Main Line on the night of Monday August 1. Detectives believe the incident took place somewhere near Great Harrowden or Wellingborough. A spokesperson from the British Transport Police said: "Overnight between 11.30pm on Monday 1 August and 1.30am on Tuesday 2 August, a large amount of railway cable was stolen from the trackside leading to over 120 hours of delays to the rail network."The line is a major railway route connecting London to Nottingham and Sheffield, passing through Northamptonshire via Wellingborough, Kettering, and Corby.
Corby, Kettering and Welligborough stations were brought to a standstill on Tuesday, August 2.
