Anchorage youngster Janna Wilcox, who is a big harry potter fan, is taking things into her own hands and naming a city road after a roadway in the global hit Harry Potter series.

Published: Jun. 12, 2024 at 10:20 PM AKDTANCHORAGE, Alaska - A West Anchorage street will now share the same name as a street in the fictional world of Harry Potter after 12-year-old Janna Wilcox had an idea and committed to making it happen.

Janna Wilcox, a big Harry Potter Fan, holding her house flag and next to her collection of merch from the Harry Potter series.Wilcox took letters and brownies to her neighbors, hoping to show them the significance of the street name to her. After a tie vote, there ended up being two options the Wilcox Family and neighbors could choose from. A tie-breaking coin toss led to Grimmauld Place winning.

Several Anchorage Assembly members and Mayor Dave Dave Bronson, who signed the executive order, spoke to the significance of Wilcox engaging in the public process to get the street name implemented.“You are a bright light in community activism,” Bronga said. “Keep it up.” Wilcox said she’s learned throughout the naming process. If you think you can do something and you apply yourself, she said, you can do almost anything you want.
