The Little Mermaid live action remake has finally arrived and has delighted fans with a number of easter eggs, references, and hidden details.
Disney has successfully continued its project of creating a live-action remake for every one of its animated films, and the latest product in 2023's The Little Mermaid, which, like any Disney remake, is full of easter eggs, references, and hidden details and changes. The Little Mermaid tells the story of Ariel, a young mermaid who has a fascination with the human world.
11 Hans Christian Anderson Quote In The Little Mermaid Remake Another reference that appears even before the movie truly begins is a quote from Hans Christian Anderson. Anderson wrote the original The Little Mermaid story in 1837. Though his tale is much darker than the Disney version, the stories are unquestionably aligned and The Little Mermaid remake makes a clear homage to the writer. The quote reads: "...But a mermaid has no tears, and therefore she suffers so much more.
9 Ariel's Sister Do Not Have A-Names While a fun fact from the original The Little Mermaid was that Ariel's six sisters all have names starting with A like her, the new The Little Mermaid flips this phenomenon completely on its head. Rather than having names that begin with A, they all have names that end with A, leaving Ariel the odd one out. In the 2023 film, the sisters' names are Perla, Indira, Mala, Tamika, Karina, and Caspia.
7 The Little Mermaid Remake Repeats Iconic Shots While The Little Mermaid remake is different from the original film, it doesn't stray too far, especially when it comes to the animated movie's iconic shots. During beloved musical numbers such as "Part of Your World" and "Under the Sea," audiences get to see Halle Bailey's Ariel reaching up out of her grotto or falling on a bundle of jellyfish in the same way the animated Ariel did it in 1989.
4 Eric's Map Room Parallels Ariel's Grotto An interesting addition to The Little Mermaid remake is Eric's map room. In the film, Ariel stumbles into it and finds a variety of objects that she herself would collect as a mermaid. Eventually, Eric comes in, and the two have their first moments of bonding. What is so important about Eric's map room is the way it parallels Ariel's grotto. Both characters have private spaces in which they keep their most precious belongings.
