South West Water initially offered affected customers only £15 in compensation
South West Water personnel investigate the source of cryptosporidium at the Hillhead reservoir in Brixham after locals fell ill with the waterborne disease , South West Water chief executive Susan Davy said she was “truly sorry for the disruption and wider anxiety this has caused”.
Ms Davy, who took home a salary of £543,000 for the last financial year, said SWW had “fallen significantly short” and that its customers “expect a safe, clean, and reliable source of drinking water”. At the time, Richard Foord, Liberal Democrat MP for Tiverton and Honiton said: “The news that shareholders are going to get bumper payouts is a slap in the face for communities across the South West.”
Pennon Group, which supplies water to 3.5 million households across the South West, has proposed raising SWW customers’ bills from an average of £504 in 2025 to £620 in 2030.
