KOTA KINABALU: A total of 114 out of 371 foreigners who flouted immigration laws were detained during an integrated operation in Keningau district on Tuesday (March 10).
They were either found not to be in possession of valid documentation or had overstayed in the country with an expired pass, said a statement by Sabah Immigration Department.
State Immigration director Datuk Dr Muhamad Sade Mohamad Amin said the group consisted of 55 men, 34 women and 25 minors ."The operation was conducted in several workers quarters, including subdistrict towns of Sook and Nabawan, besides Keningau town. "It saw the participation of 64 immigration officers, three from National Registration Department, five Civil Defence Force personnel and 30 Rela members," he said.
Muhamad Sade said the integrated operation also checked on employers suspected of obtaining illegal workers and covering for them. He added that in line with Malaysia lmmigration Department's target to catch 70,000 illegals nationwide this year, Sabah state Immigration was aiming to arrest 7,000 illegals in 2020."We thank public tip-offs that allow us to track and arrest these illegals, and we wish for cooperation from Sabahans to report any presence of illegals at their areas," he added.
