Since 2022, a total of 110 BMWs bought by the Western Cape Government have stood idle, never used. This was confirmed by the WCG, who bought the vehicles last year at a hefty price of R94 million. Of the total amount of cars, 60 brand-new BMWs were parked at the Gene Louw Traffic College in Brackenfell. Fifty others have been parked for more than a year at a government garage.

‘These cars could be used to provide essential traffic services but instead, they are just sitting there, costing taxpayers more money. The MEC needs to explain why these expensive vehicles have been sitting idle for over a year. This is wasteful and fruitless expenditure.’
