Tom Hardy on the red carpet for The Revenant

An Oscar win has evaded Tom Hardy to this point in his career, but fans are rushing to check out his finest performance on streaming. In 2015, Hardy teamed up with Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant, the bleak and sweeping Western following a frontiersman who is left to fight for his life after being mauled by a bear and left for dead by his own team of hunters.

The Revenant is streaming on HBO Max and Starz globally, where it’s charting in the top 10 in several countries like Algeria and Estonia. It’s also hanging around in the VOD top 10 in Mauritania. The Revenant was met with widespread critical and audience acclaim, and it still lives on as the only film to ever earn Tom Hardy an Oscar nomination. While Hardy didn’t take home Academy Award gold in 2016, his co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio, did for the first time, finally putting an end to a long-running streak of nominations. The film also won Best Directing and Best Cinematography, and it was nominated in nine other categories. The Revenant was also a massive financial success, grossing over $530 million at the global box office against a $135 million budget. Will Poulter and Domhnall Gleeson also have roles in the film, which is not currently streaming anywhere in America. Mark L. Smith wrote the script for The Revenant with Alejandro G. Iñárittu, who also stepped behind the camera to direct the film. Iñárritu will work with Tom Cruise later this year for Digger, which will be Cruise’s first original movie since 2017. Iñárritu is also famous for his work with Javier Bardem on Biutiful, the 2010 psychological thriller that’s currently streaming for free on Tubi. Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio Worked Together Five Years Before ‘The Revenant’ Five years before The Revenant hit theaters, Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio teamed up for Inception, widely regarded as one of the best sci-fi movies ever made. The film comes from the mind of Christopher Nolan, who has also delivered other sci-fi hits like Interstellar. Inception won four Oscars, including Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects, and it grossed a whopping $839 million at the box office, which amounts to over $1.2 billion when factoring in inflation. Inception is currently streaming on HBO Max.
