KOTA KINABALU: A family of 11 illegal immigrants using a school van to sneak through Sabah’s southern Kalabakan border with Indonesia was arrested by the General Operations Force (GOF).
Two locals acting as “transporters” were also apprehended by GOF personnel manning a roadblock under Ops Benteng at KM21 Kalabakan-Keningau road, said Tawau-based Battalion 14 GOF commander Supt Mohd Yacob Murad.
He said the locals, aged 27 and 44, were transporting the 11 family members in a bas sekolah to the interior Keningau district after they apparently sneaked in via a lorong tikus to Tawau from neighbouring Kalimantan. The GOF, he said, were carrying out patrols and putting up a roadblock when they spotted the van at about 5pm on Friday.In a separate case on Friday, Tawau marine police arrested eight Indonesian illegal immigrants during a raid on a house at a water village in the east coast town that borders Kalimantan.
Tawau marine police commanding officer Deputy Supt Mohd Nazari Ismail said the suspects, aged between three and 50, were members of a family.Article type: free
