A holiday tradition by 100 Black Men of Chicago, Inc., is ensuring children across Chicago have gifts this Christmas.
The organization hosted its annual holiday toy drive Saturday evening, an event that draws city leaders, business owners, local celebrities, and more each year.More than 1,500 toys — including board games, action figures, and electronics — will be distributed to children throughout Chicago this holiday season.Now in its 26th year, the toy drive partners with more than 15 local homeless shelters and organizations.This year also marks 100 Black Men of Chicago ’s 30th anniversary.
The toy drive not only provides free toys for children but also offers financial resources to single mothers.Dr. David Day, chairman of the organization’s board, said the event continues to grow each year."We'll probably collect almost 1,500 toys tonight and we will also take some of the funds and buy additional toys if we're running a little low," Day said.
