According to the National Weather Service, Phoenix had the hottest June in more than 100 years.

PHOENIX — A 10-year-old is in critical condition after his family called 911 as he was going"in and out of consciousness" on South Mountain Tuesday afternoon.

Officials with the Phoenix Fire Department were called to South Mountain just after 2 p.m. Officials said a family was visiting from out of state and started on the trail early Tuesday morning. The child began to go"in and out of consciousness" and was airlifted to a nearby ambulance which took him to a hospital.
