One major example of Carrie’s tendency to put her relationship Big above the importance of her friends was in the second season episode "The Man, The Myth, The Viagra" when Carrie ditched Miranda to have a veal dinner with Big. While this could be a small issue if was done just once, Carrie repeated this behavior throughout the whole series.
Carrie’s outdated views on sexuality were on full display in the third season episode “Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl” where she dated a bisexual man whose identity she described as a “layover to Gay Town.” Carrie’s consistent joking and uncomfortable reaction to her new boyfriend’s sexuality highlighted that, for a sex columnist, she was not so understanding about the complexities of human desire.
Despite learning that Big was married to Natasha in the third season, Carrie still slept with him in “Easy Come, Easy Go” and the two then continued to see each other behind both of their partners' backs. As a devastating secret with the power to emotionally ruin two innocent people, Carrie also drew her close friends into the lie and somehow justified her actions to herself.
One time that Miranda needed a friend by her side came in the fourth season episode “Time and Punishment” after she suffered a neck injury after getting out of the bath in just a towel. In desperate need of assistance, Miranda called Carrie for help, however, Carrie delegated this work to Aidan who was tasked with coming to her rescue.
