The Boss is coming to town. Ahead of next week's Bruce Springsteen concerts at Wrigley Field, we pulled together his most notable Chicago connections and moments. He opened for an a cappella group? Recorded songs by a Cook County commissioner?

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band return to North America next week, kicking off the remainder of their tour with two shows at Wrigley Field . A recent stadium tour in Europe sold more than 1.6 million tickets, and Billboard called it “the greatest show on earth.”Here are a few highlights of Springsteen and the band intersecting with Chicago people and places over the years.

3. On his most recent release, Springsteen sings two songs co-written by former Cook County Commissioner Jerry Butler. Long before he was a Chicago politician, Butler was in the R&B group The Impressions and also recorded as a solo artist. Butler co-wrote the hit songs “Hey, Western Union Man” and “Only the Strong Survive” — which is also the name of Springsteen’s 2022 album of soul covers.

7. Springsteen debuted “Dream Baby Dream” in May 2005 at the Rosemont Theatre, and he then closed each show of his acoustic tour with the song. The song was a cover version of a 1979 song by the synth-punk band Suicide. Springsteen added lyrics and recorded a version of “Dream Baby Dream” for his 2014 LP “High Hopes.”

10. What to expect at Wrigley Field this week: a three-hour show with a setlist that likely will not be as freewheeling as in the past. Springsteen’s latest concerts featured a streamlined set with an intense pace. Expect time-tested hits, newer songs from 2020’s “Letter to You” and at least one tune from his LP of soul covers, “Only the Strong Survive.” And he won’t be crowd-surfing. COVID-19 has retired Springsteen’s leap of faith into the crowd.
