“About six months later, I wore red lipstick again, this time during the indoor nationals, where I won the mile and two-mile events. That’s when people took notice, and the lipstick started to take on another meaning. Some criticized my look, people who wanted the sport to stay the way it was—masculine—and that made me especially motivated to represent my femininity on the track. I’m proud to be a female athlete representing the U.S., and wearing Chanel Rouge Allure is my way of showing it.
