Some horror movies are deemed appropriate for younger audiences and given a PG-13 rating. There are some, however, that perhaps shouldn’t have been.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Not all horror films have an R rating, but there are many PG-13-rated horror movies that probably should have. The majority of horror movies are bestowed an R rating for their horrifying and adult-themed content. However, a range of movies escaped with only a PG-13 rating despite arguably deserving higher.

9 The Others While The Others is not especially excessive with its approach to horror, the central plot is very mature. The sheer distress portrayed by Nicole Kidman's protagonist, Grace Stewart, is particularly adult-oriented. As is the highly disturbing final twist and the movie's most famous scene - during which Grace's daughter is seemingly possessed by an elderly ghost, prompting a viscerally intense reaction from Grace.

6 World War Z World War Z is one of my most intense cinematic experiences ever. It is a relentless onslaught of anxiety and tension, as the zombie hordes overrun every single scene in the movie. Brad Pitt's World War Z was supposed to revolutionize zombie movies, and it certainly delivers a nail-biting experience. The zombies themselves do not exhibit the same degree of flesh-eating gore as other zombie movies - which is seemingly the justification for the PG-13 rating.
