While horror movies are typically designed to scare and unsettle, sometimes, a great horror movie death scene can be truly cathartic and satisfying.

While many horror movies are content to simply scare audiences, some go the extra mile and throw a truly cathartic death scene into the mix, too. For most viewers, the word “satisfying” is not the first descriptor that comes to mind when talking about horror movies. By definition, horror movies are designed to scare audiences. As a result, horror movies are more likely to leave the viewer feeling unsettled and jumping with fear than triumphant and hooting with glee.

However, the heroine Helen’s love interest Trevor is a much more classic horror movie antagonist. Not only does Trevor refuse to believe Helen’s fear so the titular threat, but he also cheats on her and allowed her to be institutionalized so that he could get credit for her work.

5 Ms. Deagle—Gremlins The first draft of 1984’s Gremlins was a gory, R-rated horror movie where innocent characters and even a pet dog were slaughtered by gremlins. However, when producer Steven Spielberg turned the movie into a much lighter affair, most of the death scenes were excised from Gremlins. One that the movie kept was the demise of Ms. Deagle, but few viewers were sad to see her go.
