Hearts are heavy in Baker County where a 10-month-old girl has died after investigators say the child was left in a hot vehicle.

“I just can’t imagine what that poor baby went through. I mean to sit there and suffer,” neighbor Amanda Steiger said.According to an unnamed family friend who lives in the neighborhood, the child did not live at the home and was brought there by a babysitter.Florida baby left inside hot car dies while parents are at church serviceSteiger is a neighbor who said shortly after 1 p.m., her adopted children ran inside and told her police cars and paramedics were next door.
“A paramedic came out with a young child looking lifeless in their arms and put it into the ambulance and then they took off. Then I heard a woman screaming ‘My baby! My baby,’” Steiger said.According to Kids and Car Safety, an organization advocating the prevention of hot car deaths, the tragedy that unfolded in Macclenny marks the 14th time this year in the US that a child has died after being left in a hot vehicle. In Florida, it’s now the 6th hot car fatality this year.
